New York City

Overview

Symone Thompson is a Presidential Scholar and honors student at Spelman College, studying political science and economics.

Symone gained valuable experience as an intern with Brookfield Asset Management in New York, where she collaborated with a team to oversee a portfolio of assets over $100 billion. She also gained experience working at the City of San Francisco’s Office of Economic Development. While there, she designed a strategic plan to increase the number of merchants in the downtown commercial district and presented it to stakeholders, including the Mayor and SF Foundation.

Participation in programs such as Spelman on the Hill, AltFinance, semester study abroad in Spain, and Summer for Undergraduates hosted by Florida State University’s College of Law have all extended Symone's education beyond the classroom. Her involvement in Goldman Sachs' Market Madness program contributed to her team's first-place finish in the national competition and a $1 million institutional grant awarded to Spelman College.

Symone is actively involved on Spelman College’s campus and in the local Atlanta community. Holding leadership roles in all organizations of which she is a part, Symone has facilitated programming in pre-professional organizations, including Future Business Leaders of Spelman; served as a mentor to underclassmen as a First Year Study Group Lead and Director of Protégé, Spelman’s mentorship organization; and demonstrated a passion for service through SpelReads.

Symone plans to graduate from Spelman College in May 2027 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
