Bar Association Program

The ABA is the largest association of lawyers in the United States, with roughly 200,000 members. With over 11,000 members, the ABA Tax Section brings together more tax lawyers than any other organization.

The current Chair of the ABA Tax Section is Professor Alice G. Abreu of Temple University’s School of Law.  Click here to watch Megan Brackney’s comments, as Chair-Elect, congratulating Professor Abreu on her inauguration as Section Chair.

As a boutique law firm known for its work in tax law, Kostelanetz has a long history of participation and leadership in the ABA Tax Section. Tracing back to its founding, Jules Ritholz (1925-1993) established the ABA Tax Section’s Civil & Criminal Tax Penalties Committee, which brings together professionals from government and private practice. His work with the ABA is still recognized annually through the Tax Section’s Jules Ritholz Memorial Merit Award.

More recent ABA Tax Section leaders from Kostelanetz have included Bryan C. Skarlatos (former Chair of the Civil & Criminal Tax Penalties Committee) and Caroline D. Ciraolo (who was the Section’s inaugural Vice Chair for Membership, Diversity, and Inclusion and Chair of the Loretta Collins Argrett Fellowship Program).

Every Kostelanetz lawyer is an ABA member, and virtually all our lawyers belong to the Tax Section. Important contributions have been made by Heather Fincher, co-founder and founding Leadership Board Member of the Tax Section’s Women in Tax Forum; and Abigail Burke, who has served as Vice-Chair of the Women in Tax Forum since 2023.
