Tax Controversy 2026: Navigating the New Enforcement Landscape

Bryan C. Skarlatos will co-chair the Practising Law Institute’s (PLI) one-day program “Tax Controversy 2026: Navigating the New Enforcement Landscape” in New York on March 23, 2026, with Michael Desmond of Miller & Chevalier Chartered.

Tax enforcement resource changes, together with the recent record-setting government shutdown, have created unique challenges for taxpayers and practitioners alike as they seek to resolve tax disputes, or avoid them entirely, through affirmative approaches to compliance. Meanwhile, and notwithstanding the resource-constrained environment, enforcement continues apace, with thousands of new audits being added to an already strained inventory of pending cases. As the enforcement environment continues to evolve, in-house tax personnel and advisors at law and accounting firms should expect to encounter significant changes in enforcement activity in the coming years.

This one-day program is for tax practitioners seeking a deeper understanding of the nuances of representing clients in tax controversies, and leading tax professionals will help participants navigate the evolving tax enforcement and compliance environment.

Up to 7 continuing education credits may be earned by attending the program’s sessions, such as:

  • Handling an IRS Examination in a Resource-Constrained Environment
  • Unique Tax Controversy Issues Relating to Partnerships
  • Tax Refund Claims and Litigation
  • Recent Tax Cases and Pending Litigation
  • Deploying Technology and AI in Tax Cases

More information and registration can be found here. Virtual attendance will also be offered.
