Kostelanetz LLP welcomes applications from students enrolled in the Tax LLM program at Georgetown University Law Center for the firm’s Externship Program. The firm seeks qualified candidates on a year-round basis, meaning that applications for the Externship Program are open for the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Participants in the Externship Program are eligible to receive academic credit from Georgetown Law School.
Kostelanetz LLP represents clients in matters of particular interest to Tax LLM students, including tax planning, tax controversy, and white collar defense. The Externship Program provides Georgetown Tax LLM students with the opportunity to integrate knowledge learned in the classroom with real-world experiences. Candidates are assigned legal tasks on client-facing matters and work collaboratively with attorneys and paralegals to find solutions that our clients can rely on confidently. Furthermore, candidates receive legal assignments on novel tax issues, providing ample opportunities for scholarship in tax law. Other daily responsibilities include researching and writing on non-client-specific technical tax issues; preparation of tax alerts related to legislative and regulatory updates; and drafting materials for internal and external presentations on client matters, all under attorney supervision. Past externs of the program have had prior legal experience, as well as experience from around the world, such as from Brazil, Canada, India and Mexico. After graduation, externs have gone on to work at Big 4 accounting firms as well as at AM Law 100 firms in Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Houston, and Miami. Daniel Cady Davidson and Liz Grant oversee our Externship Program. Those interested in applying for the externship should contact recruiting@kflaw.com with any questions.
