Claude M. Millman was quoted in an article in Law360 entitled “NYC Nonprofit Wants City’s New Labor Peace Law Axed,” which discusses pro bono litigation filed by K&F for the Human Services Council of New York (HSC), an organization that advocates for 170 nonprofits in the New York City social services sector. HSC’s lawsuit challenges the legality of a City law enacted during the administration of former Mayor Bill de Blasio.
According to the article: “An attorney for the HSC, Claude M. Millman of Kostelanetz & Fink LLP, told Law360 on Monday that ‘the law adds a new layer of complexity to the city’s very byzantine system for procuring human services.’ The injunction bid mentions that the law would require union leaders’ signatures on certain forms, and failure to obtain those signatures could result in a nonprofit losing its contract with the city, HSC said.”
The article continues: “‘This law does not promote service continuity — it does the exact opposite,’ Millman said. ‘The greatest risk to the nonprofits that provide these services … is contract disruptions that result from an overcomplicated bureaucratic system.'”
K&F’s team prosecuting the lawsuit includes Claude M. Millman, Caroline Rule, Usman Mohammad, Michelle E. Lee, Mahima Chaudhary, and Destiny Reese.
