Innocent Spouse Relief for Federal Taxes and Penalties (CLE)

January 27 @ 6:00 pm EST

Megan L. Brackney will present “Understanding the Innocent Spouse Defense” for the Matrimonial and Family Law Committee of the New York Women’s Bar Association on Jan. 27, 2025.

The program will explain the fundamentals of the Innocent Spouse relief for federal taxes and penalties. According to the IRS, “Innocent spouse relief can relieve you from paying additional taxes if your spouse understated taxes due on your joint tax return and you didn’t know about the errors.”

Megan will explore the complex issues that can sometimes accompany tax controversy cases involving Innocent Spouse defenses and claims for relief. This program will be useful to matrimonial attorneys as well as attorneys wishing to deepen their understanding of the intersection between matrimonial and tax law.

More information and registration for this event can be found here.

RSVPs requested by Jan. 24, 2025. CLE credit is offered for this course.

The program is free for members of the New York Women’s Bar Association (NYWBA) and members of the Women’s Bar Association of The State Of New York (WBASNY). The cost is $25 for all others.

The New York Women’s Bar Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to “improving the status of women in society, educating women lawyers and assisting them in professional development and advancement, and promoting the fair and equal administration of justice,” according to the NYWBA website.
