Balancing Tax Planning, Advocacy, and Professional Ethics: The Rules That Every Tax Advisor Should Know

April 24

Andy Weiner will present on a panel entitled “Balancing Tax Planning, Advocacy, and Professional Ethics: The Rules That Every Tax Advisor Should Know” at the Practicing Law Institute’s (PLI) three-day Tax Planning for Domestic & Foreign Partnerships, LLCs, Joint Ventures & Other Strategic Alliances conference in Chicago on April 24, 2025.

Andy’s panel, co-run with Bradley Seltzer of Holland & Knight, will focus on practice standards and ethical standards that apply to practitioners during the partnership tax planning process. Attendees will learn the key provisions related to advising clients on partnership and pass-through transactions under Circular 230, AICPA Statements on Standards for Tax Services, and the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and how to navigate the ethical pitfalls that may arise when providing tax opinions and recommending return positions.

The first two days of the event are dedicated to the framework and intricacies of Subchapter K, with the third day devoted to specialized topics like ethics rules, specific industries, and international tax compliance tailored to practitioners focusing on partnership taxation. The conference will take place April 22-24, 2025, at 300 East Randolph Street, Suite 5000, near Millennium Park. Virtual attendance options are also available.
